About

Greek Grand Prix is the largest scale backgammon event in Greece since 2023.
After successfully executed its first 2 editions in Loutraki, now in its new venue Kamena Vourla, we invite backgammon lovers from all around the globe to our masterpiece event, which will be run by world’s premiere tournament director Arda Findikoglu, with a high quality tournament setup and great travel experience to a wonderful destination.

We are proud to announce that the 3rd Greek Grand Prix is the host of 2025 World National & Women’s Teams Championships in cooperation with the


World Backgammon Federation.

Bernhard Mayr is the president of the World Backgammon Federation (WBGF), the World Backgammon Internet Federation (WBIF), and the CEO of the Backgammon Master Awarding Body (BMAB). Under his leadership, the federations organise live and online team world championships, driving the global growth of backgammon. Bernhard's dual roles allow him to bridge the gap between traditional and digital backgammon communities. He works tirelessly to ensure consistency in rules and regulations, promoting fair play and sportsmanship across platforms. A father of 4 daughters, Bernhard is also an accomplished architect, specialising in kindergarten and school projects, bringing his unique expertise to both his professional and gaming endeavours.

Organizer & Director

Arda Findikoglu is one of the most prestigious names in the world of backgammon with his successfully completed more than 300 events national and international scale in his 23 years of career. Organizing and running more than 14 events every year, today, Arda Findikoglu is the head director of the most prestigious event of backgammon world, World Backgammon Championship which is held in Monte Carlo every year. He is also a board member of WBGF, World Backgammon Federation, which is the most well-respected backgammon association of the world last 4 years.

Stefanos Charaklias is the founder and chairman of Mind Sports Club of Cholargos since 2014. During these years his club has hosted and organized most of the big Backgammon events of Greece. The club is also active in the fields of Chess and Bridge. He was the president of the Greek Backgammon Federation (2021-2024)..

Route

Kamena Vourla is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Evia, Central Greece.
It is located 168km north of Athens, next to the historic city of Thermopyles, the site where King Leonidas of Sparta and his 300 warriors fought till death against the Persians almost 2.500 years ago. The town is also known for Lichadonisia aka Greek Bahamas, a complex of small islands with Caribbean looking coasts, its vast natural springs and therapeutic spas.
Kamena Vourla is a very popular tourist destination because of its crystal clear sea and wonderful sites.
Average day/night temperatures during early April: 24°C / 14°C.

Important Notes

  • WBGF Tournament Rules set will be the main guideline of the rules applied and any additional rules will be posted on the notice board prior to the start of the whole event. (Link)
  • Detailed information about WBGF 2025 World Teams Championships can be found on following link: Teams Regulations
  • Players who have recent Intermediates winner titles, or a BMAB ranking of “M” or better, or a recognized PR of 6,5 or below are NOT allowed to participate in Intermediates flight in principle, to be checked with the event director during registration phase. If a player who cashes in Intermediates is noticed as meeting one of these criteria, 30% of official prize is cut and distributed as a compensation to his & her opponents.
  • The Tournament Director reserves the right to require the use of clocks in any round of any category.
  • The draw is manual (not computerised), public and random.
  • Tournament matches take precedence over all other forms of play.
  • Only cash payments are accepted.
  • The Tournament Committee reserves the right to refuse applications to play without giving any reasons, since the event is by WBGF and OPAX invitation only.
    Should a player wish to leave the playing area during the tournament, he/she must inform the Tournament Director. Failure to do so may result in penalty points being assigned.
  • The daily break for dinner is between 19:00 and 20:30.
  • Smoking is not permitted in the event venue other than in designated areas.
  • The tournament will be played on professional Tournament Boards.
  • Our boards are regularly cleaned and disinfected at the end of each day.
  • Dice service is provided by organization.
  • All players are expected to be dressed appropriately.
